The Spoils Of BabylonThe Spoils of Babylon is the three-hour adaptation of fictional author Eric Jonrosh's (Will Ferrell) magnum opus novel. The show is a parody of the big-budget mini-series of the 70s and 80s like The Winds of War and The Thorn Birds, and spans fifty years from the Great Depression to the 70s.
The show revolves around the incestuous relationship between Devon Morehouse (Tobey Maguire) and the daughter of the man who adopted him, Cynthia Morehouse (Kristen Wiig). Devon is shot down during World War II and subsequently marries a mannequin, but the heart of the story is his true love to Cynthia... and whether it will survive in the face of the oil company's trials and tribulations as it goes through the 70s oil shortages and the death of everyone that Devon holds dear.
Of course, a description like this can't capture the cheap model work (financed by Jonrosh himself), the soapy dialogue, the cheesy overacting, the shameless product placement, and the bizarre intros and outros by the author, wedged into a booth at a restaurant endlessly guzzling down goblets of wine and discoursing on how he held the cast & crew at gunpoint during filming to keep them from leaving.
